Emotional Eating

1 min read

It's natural that we have an emotional connection to food. Our bodies need it to survive, and eating makes us feel better and releases endorphins. Food is a way to celebrate, a way to show someone you care, and a way to connect on social levels. It's all around us and on some peoples mind ALL the time.

For some it can become an issue when they don't have any other way to cope with emotional situations and turn to food all the time.

If this is you, I have some tips below

  1. Keep a diary - record how you are feeling, certain emotions can be linked with certain food, this can make it easier to identify triggers

  2. Move your body - go for a little walk or do some gentle stretching/yoga practice

  3. Practice mindfulness - focus on your breath, listen to some music or a podcast

  4. Ensure you are eating enough - you may find that at the end of the day your cravings are increasing because you haven't fueled properly at the start of the day. Aim for high protein meals as they will keep you fuller for longer

  5. Seek support - phone a friend or reach out to your support group when you feel emotional and can feel yourself gravitating towards food

If you feel as if your emotional eating is out of control, please feel free to get in contact as I have many more tips and am more than happy to help you overcome this.

Remember to be KIND to yourself as we are not perfect, and everyone is a on their own journey.
